Bring your history from another app

Switching from OurFamilyWizard, Talking Parents, another co-parenting app — or your own spreadsheet? You don't have to re-type anything. The import tool brings your calendar history over, and you review every entry before anything is saved. It's included on every plan.

Where to find it

  • Settings → Family → Calendar data → "Switch from another app"
  • On your phone: the top-right menu → "Bring my history (import)"
  • The link on an empty calendar
  • The dashboard's getting-started card, when it offers the import

Importing a calendar export (.ics)

  1. Pick your old app. The page shows where that app hides its .ics calendar export (in OurFamilyWizard: Calendar → export/download).
  2. Upload the .ics file — up to 15 MB / 5,000 entries. Too big? Export a smaller date range and run it again; re-importing never duplicates.
  3. Review in groups. Entries are sorted into parenting time, medical, school, activities, holidays, and personal items. Every group and every entry has its own checkbox — nothing saves until you press import.
  4. Parenting time goes on the calendar, not into evidence. If custody blocks name a parent, the app asks "Which parent are you?" and pre-checks only the blocks naming you — nothing is ever guessed, and the other parent's time is never logged as yours.
  5. Done. The success screen totals what landed where.

Safe to re-run. Importing the same file twice never duplicates — already-imported entries are skipped, and stays are trimmed around nights already on your calendar.

Only have a PDF, a spreadsheet, or just your order?

No .ics export needed. The import page starts by asking "What are you starting from?" — and whichever you pick, a ready-made prompt for ChatGPT or Claude appears right on the page:

  • A calendar PDF (like OurFamilyWizard's "Calendar Report"): the assistant asks which color marks your days, then builds the .ics file for you.
  • A spreadsheet or CSV: the assistant asks which parent you are and confirms your date format, then converts your records — custody nights become parenting-time calendar entries, and appointments, school days, and activities become documentation entries. Anything it can't date gets skipped and listed, never guessed.
  • Just my custody order: the assistant reads your order, asks which parent you are and how your pattern anchors, and builds the next 24 months of parenting time. (For a schedule that keeps itself filled in, Set up your custody schedule is the better home — this is the sure-thing alternative.)

Copy the prompt, attach your file in ChatGPT or Claude, paste, answer its questions, then upload the .ics it produces right below. The same review-everything flow applies.

Tracking expenses in that spreadsheet too? Those import separately — open the Expenses page and use its Import button, which has its own conversion prompt. See Tracking expenses.

If your custody order won't parse in Schedule Setup

The same idea rescues a stubborn decree: if Set up your custody schedule can't turn your order into a repeating pattern, a "Stuck? Let ChatGPT or Claude build your calendar" panel appears with a prompt that converts the order into the next 24 months of parenting time as an .ics file — which you import right here.
