Why paper
It works when nothing else does.
No app, no login, no battery. A notebook on the kitchen counter gets written in. Records made the same day are the ones courts tend to believe.
It is one parent’s record.
Nothing in this book is shared with the other parent. There is no invitation, no notification, no shared account. You decide what gets copied and who sees it.
It counts time the way courts do.
Overnights, not days. Friday after school to Sunday evening is two nights. The calendar, the time log, and the monthly review all count the same way, so your numbers hold up.
What’s inside
Set up once.
Case information, a plain-English summary of your custody order, and the people who matter to the record.
Every month — nine pages, one color.
- Overnight calendar with a planned-vs-actual tally
- Custody time log (overnights and timed visits)
- Exchange, missed-visit & late-pickup log
- Communication log (two sheets)
- Child expense ledger
- Incident log
- Child’s emotional & behavioral observations
- Monthly review — ten minutes to total it up and list what to send your attorney
Each month’s pages carry a color tab on the outside edge. Flip to any month without looking.
Across months.
Reimbursement tracker, evidence index (your exhibit list), health & medical log, school & activities log, witness log, deadlines.
Who it’s for
- You are preparing for a custody hearing, modification, or enforcement and were told to “start documenting.”
- You already have months of screenshots and no system.
- You want a record that does not live on a phone the other parent might see.
- You would rather write than type — or you want a paper backup of what you keep in the app.

Paper or app?
| Paper record | Custody Proof app | |
|---|---|---|
| Overnight calendar & tally | You count | Counted for you, planned vs. actual |
| Evidence | Numbered index, you store originals | Encrypted vault, attached to the entry |
| Reports for your attorney | Photocopy the pages | Lawyer-ready PDF export |
| Schedule from your order | You copy it in | Upload the order; it builds the calendar |
| Works without a phone | Yes | No |
| Private from the other parent | Yes | Yes |
| Cost | Free (PDF) | From $14.75/mo |
Many people use both: the book for day-to-day, the app for the export. Start with whichever you’ll actually keep up. Start your record online.
Common questions
Is this really free?
Yes. The PDF is free for personal use. We ask for an email so we can send you the link and, if you opt in, occasional notes on documenting custody. No credit card.
Can I print it myself?
Yes. It is a standard letter-size PDF. Print single- or double-sided. Office-supply stores will print and spiral-bind it for a few dollars.
Will the other parent know I downloaded this?
No. Nothing about this page or this record is shared with anyone. If you share a page, you do it by copying it yourself.
Can I use these pages in court?
The pages are designed to be clear and court-friendly — dated entries, exact words, numbered exhibits. Whether and how records are used in court varies by jurisdiction and case. That is a question for your attorney. Custody Proof is a documentation tool and does not give legal advice.
Does it match the app?
Yes. The categories, expense fields, and status labels are the same ones the app uses, so if you move your record online later nothing gets lost in translation.
What if I want two years?
Print the monthly pages again, or download the PDF twice. The month tabs repeat.
