Discounts, fee waivers, and access codes from your attorney
Custody Proof has three ways to pay less, or nothing, for a while: an access code your attorney gives you, a 20% military discount, and a fee waiver if paying would be a hardship. This page explains each one, how to use it, and what happens when it ends.
Access codes from your attorney
Some attorneys and family-law firms buy Custody Proof access for their clients. If yours did, they will give you a code that looks like `SMIT-7KQ2-M9XD-40HV`.
To use it:
- Create your account (or sign in) at custodyproof.com.
- On the plan page, choose Have an access code from your attorney?
- Type the code exactly as it appears on the letter or email. Dashes and capital letters are optional.
- Choose Redeem code. You go straight into setup — no card needed.
Good to know:
- Each code works once. It is tied to the first account that redeems it and cannot be moved to someone else.
- The code decides your plan and how long it lasts. Some codes give Documentation, some give Case Builder (which includes Vero, the AI assistant). Settings → Subscription shows exactly what you have, for example "Access provided by your attorney's code until March 15, 2027 (Case Builder)".
- A second code adds time. If you redeem another code while your access is still running, the new months are added to the end.
- Already paying? A code can't be redeemed on an account that already has a paid subscription — keep your subscription as it is and email support@custodyproof.com. We'll sort out the billing with you.
- Already have free access with no end date? There's nothing for a code to add, so it won't redeem. Keep the code and email support if you think that's wrong.
- "That code isn't valid." Check it against the letter from your attorney. Codes can stop working if they were already used, if the firm's batch had a redeem-by date that passed, or if the firm canceled unused codes. Your attorney or support can help.
Military discount (20% off)
Active duty, Reserve and National Guard members, veterans, and military spouses get 20% off every bill, for as long as you stay subscribed.
To apply, choose Apply next to "Military families: 20% off" under the plan cards on the plan page, or go to Settings → Subscription → Discounts. You answer two questions (your connection to the military and your branch) and confirm the information is true. No documents are needed to apply — we may email you to ask for something that confirms it.
A real person reviews every request, usually within two business days, and we email you the answer.
- If you haven't subscribed yet, the discount is applied automatically when you check out. You'll see it on the checkout page before you pay.
- If you already pay, we add it to your current subscription. It shows up on your next bill.
- If you cancel and come back later, the discount still applies when you resubscribe.
Fee waivers
If paying for Custody Proof would be a hardship, you can ask for a fee waiver. If approved, you get free Documentation access for a set number of months — usually 3, 6 or 12. No card is needed.
To apply, choose Apply for a fee waiver under the plan cards, or go to Settings → Subscription → Discounts. The form asks for your household size, your approximate monthly household income, and whether anyone in your household receives SNAP, Medicaid, TANF or SSI. There's an optional box for anything else you'd like us to know. No documents are needed to apply.
We email you the answer, usually within two business days. If you're approved while you already pay, your subscription is set not to renew: you keep the time you already paid for, you aren't charged again, and the free months start when that paid time ends.
When free access ends
About two weeks before an access code or a fee waiver ends, we email you a reminder (you can turn reminder emails off in Settings → Profile). Settings → Subscription also shows the end date, and in the last two weeks a Choose a plan button.
When free access ends:
- Nothing is deleted. Your calendar, evidence, expenses and reports stay in your account.
- To keep adding records, choose a plan on the plan page. You can apply for a fee waiver from the same page if paying is still a hardship.
Quick answers
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Can I combine the military discount with an access code? | An access code means there's nothing to pay while it lasts. The military discount applies to paid plans, including after a code ends. |
| Can I give my code to a friend? | No. Each code is single-use and stays with the account that redeemed it. |
| Does a code or waiver have a cash value? | No. |
| What if my information changes? | Reply to any of our emails or write to support@custodyproof.com. A discount or waiver given on information that wasn't true can be ended. |
